SCENE: Eden. Michael is staring longingly out a window into the rose garden. After a moment, he launches himself out. While he should normally fly, he lands in a jumble instead and as he stands up, red ribbons unfurl from his arms and legs to represent blood symbolically. He limps dramatically over to a particular rose bush and takes a seat, sad.

ANGEL: [offscreen, voice loud] "Lord Michael is missing!"

ANGEL 2: [offscreen, voice also loud] "Have you checked the rose garden?"

ANGEL: "If he's in the rose garden, he must be injured!"

ANGEL 2: "CALL THE PHYSICIAN!"

ANGEL: "CALL LORD RAPHAEL!"

[background music swells.]

MICHAEL: [singing to the roses, mournfully]
"They call for him,
Thinking he can help me,
how can they know
How much harm he does me?

Oh, they don't know,
The secret that I bear for him,
Cerulean
My eyes on him-

[music comes to a sudden halt and Michael looks up, off stage left]

RAPHAEL: [offstage, loud] "Not so secret anymore." [strides in from stage left.] "Michael, you're always injuring yourself. Please, you could try to think of your responsibilities."

MICHAEL: [weary] "Oh, I'm tired of my responsibilities."

RAPHAEL: [sharp-voiced] "I could leave you like this, you know."

MICHAEL: [teasing] "No you couldn't. What about your responsibilities?"

RAPHAEL: [HUGE sigh.] [kneels by Michael] "Show me where it hurts."

MICHAEL: [hesitates, then puts a hand over his heart.] "Here."

RAPHAEL: [sharp again] "*Michael*."

MICHAEL: [defensive] "It's the truth. You know it."

RAPHAEL: "Quiet."

[music creeps up]

MICHAEL: "You know it-"
RAPHAEL: "Don't speak of it-"
MICHAEL: "You know it to be true!"
RAPHAEL: "Don't talk, you have a job to do-"
MICHAEL: "What about my love for you?"
RAPHAEL: "Be quiet, do you want to be found ouuuuut?"
MICHAEL: "I do!"
RAPHAEL: "You fool!"
MICHAEL: "It's true!"

RAPHAEL: [steps back. With the crash of music coming to a sudden end-] "Michael, the death penalty!"

MICHAEL: [into the sudden silence, sings to the tune of the 'secret garden' song]
"They call for you,
Thinking you can help me,
My love for you,
Never is returned to me..."

RAPHAEL: [spoken] "Michael-"

MICHAEL: [sung]
"Oh, they don't know,
The lengths that I'd go for you,
I'd die for you,
will die for you-"

RAPHAEL: "An heir. We need you to have an heir first. Chihaya?"

MICHAEL: [lets his singing trail off. LOoks away] "Chihaya's as guilty as we will be."

RAPHAEL: "What?"

MICHAEL: "Kagetsuya's old enough to have his first mating period."

RAPHAEL: "Chihaya?"

MICHAEL: "Yes."

RAPHAEL: "Then we can't."

MICHAEL: [looks distant as a faint sound, like bombing, can be heard in the background] "Everything is changing, Raphael."

RAPHAEL: "Michael..."

MICHAEL: [sings, soft] "I'd die for you, will die for you-"
RAPHAEL: [sighs and joins in] "In the se~cret ga~ar...den..."

[stage rotates to switch scenes. The new scene is simplistic: a bedroom, though all done in black, with black bedsheets. Chihaya and Kagetsuya cuddle naked in bed together. The impression is that they are surrounded in darkness, only seen from the chests up.]

[a gentle song is playing: Kagetsuya sings the melody line, while Chihaya murmurs the harmony]

KAGETSUYA: "You're safe here, we're safe here-"

CHIHAYA: "God, are you watching?"

KAGETSUYA: "I want you, I need you-"

CHIHAYA: "Are you watching, God?"

KAGETSUYA: "I love you, completely-"

CHIHAYA: "You're watching, aren't you?"

[thunder crashes - Kagetsuya switches to harmony, Chihaya to melody]

KAGETSUYA: "Together, forever-"

CHIHAYA: "God is watching..."

KAGETSUYA: "Chihaya-"

CHIHAYA: "He's watching, Kagetsuya-"

KAGETSUYA: [slowly moves onto CHIHAYA] "Chihaya-

CHIHAYA: [panicky] "Watching us right now!"

[The door crashes open]

[the stage goes dark.]
